High School Hysteria Week Two Preview

By: Will Burge

Week 2 is upon us and all the weekend action is ready to kick off!

HIGH SCHOOL HYSTERIA GAME OF THE WEEK:

Let’s dive right in by looking back at Week 1:

Will’s picks: 2-2

Wins: Lake Catholic over St. Ignatius & Mayfield over Bedford

Losses: Padua over Olmsted Falls & St. Edward’s over Mentor

Let’s see if I can get above .500 this week. Let’s get started:

Penn Hills, PA (0-0) @ #5 St. Edward’s (1-0)

The Breakdown:

Penn Hills is a solid squad from our sister state to the East. They finished over .500 last season and are a perennial playoff team. They have quite a few returning starters but if Ed’s quarterback Kevin Burke plays half as good as he did last week, they should be just fine.

The Prediction:

Burke and that suddenly prolific St. Edward’s offense will roll up the visitors from out of state. This is a very promising 2-0 start for the Eagles.

#6 St Ignatius (0-1) @ Bedford (0-1)

The Breakdown:

The St. Ignatius Wildcats come into this game off of a week 1 loss to #2 Lake Catholic. Unfortunately, for Bedford they will get the grunt of that anger. Bedford gave up four touchdown passes to Mayfield in week 1 and couldn’t stop the run either. This is a good week to break in Hoyer, the Wildcat’s new QB, and  to rack up yards in the ground game.

The Prediction:

It is very hard for me to imagine a scenario where Ignatius starts 0-2. I like the Wildcats to roll in this one.

#7 Euclid (1-0) @ Brunswick (1-0)

The Breakdown:

Both team’s come in undefeated but in very different ways. Euclid won it’sopener against Strongsville with defense and special teams while Brunswick got their victory in a shootout. Brunswick will try and run the ball down the Panther’s throats while limiting Euclid’s explosive tailback Allen Crawford. Chuck Bradford, the veteran quarterback for Euclid, did not play his best game in week 1. If he bounces back Euclid could start 2-0.

The Prediction:

I like Bradford to have a bounce-back game. They have too many athletes and offensive veterans to struggle like they did in week one. I’ll take Euclid in a tight one.

#10 Mentor (0-1) @ Strongsville (0-1)

The Breakdown:

Mentor finally found its offensive mojo and possibly their starting quarterback in Mitch Trebisky late in their Charity Game loss to St. Edward’s. Coach Steve Trivisonno says the quarterbacks will still split time but judging by the sophomore’s effectiveness in the passing game, he should get most of the reps. Strongsville really struggled with Euclid’s speed and athleticism last week. They won’t get a break this week against the Cardinals.

The Prediction:

Mentor grabs their first victory of the year in a route over Strongsville. This could be the start of a very long season for the Mustangs.
