Roda Reacts to the Buckeyes Loss in Wisconsin

By: Kenny Roda

Either they weren’t ready to play or they were tight being ranked #1, whatever, Wisconsin shocked the Buckeyes, jumping out to a 21-0 lead before the Buckeyes woke up or crap their pants, and then went and changed them and tried to come back.

The opening kickoff returned 97 yards for a touchdown set the tone for the game and gave Wisconsin the opportunity to play from in front, exactly what Bret Beilema wanted.

Then the Buckeyes defense got punched in the mouth on 2 consecutive drives to give the Badgers an insurmountable lead at 21-0.

Buckeyes Quarterback Terrelle Pryor

Terrelle Pryor regressed with his below average performance.  Heisman trophy candidates in their junior year are supposed to play better in games of this magnitude, and Pryor did not.  A lot of us thought last year’s loss to Purdue was going to be the turn around moment for Pryor, so much for that.  Will this loss to Wisconsin be that moment?  Only time will tell.  And by the way Terrelle, don’t even think about the NFL, you’re not ready!

Jim Tressel’s play calling in the first half on 1st and goal from the Wisconsin 3 was terrible.  3 plays netted –1 yard and O.S.U. had to settle for a field goal to make it 21-3 instead of 21-7.  Then Tressel had another brain cramp with the awful decision to punt the ball on 4th and 10 from his own 29 with about 6:00 to go and down 10 points. You have to go for it in that situation. No guts, no glory!

Yes the Buckeyes made a comeback, getting to within 21-18 with  about 10:00 to go, but Ohio State’s defense could not stop the Badgers, who went through Cameron Heyward, Brian Roller and the rest of the Ohio State’s defense like a hot knife through butter.

You can forget the National Championship game that I predicted the Buckeyes would play in now.  That was lost in Madison,Wisconsin.  If O.S.U. wins out, they might get a BCS Bowl berth in the Rose(long shot), Orange or Sugar.  If not, make plans for a January 1st game against an SEC team in either the Capital One Bowl or the Outback Bowl.
