Vikings Keep Rolling

CSU Head Coach Gary Waters reached a milestone Wednesday night, when his Vikings beat The University of Akron 64-51 to improve to 6-0 on the season.

In a game where defense was the difference, it was fitting that Coach Waters reached his 250th win.

In true Waters fashion, he didn’t even mention this accomplishment after the game, choosing to talk about his team instead. “These young men played hard defensively and I’m proud of them for that,” Waters said.

In a game that saw one of Cleveland State’s best players Norris Cole struggle in the first half, junior guard Trey Harmon carried the team with nine first half points, to lead all scorers. In the second half, Cole woke-up to score 16 of his 19 points, putting an exclamation point on the victory with his dunk on Akron’s seven-footer Zeke Marshall with two minutes left in the game.

Akron had a difficult time controlling the post, as well as getting their guards to the basket. They showed signs of a team that’s still working to reach their potential before conference play.

The Vikings are back home on Saturday to face St. Bonaventure at 6:00 PM.
