O.S.U. Is Driving Me Nuts

By Kenny Roda

Ohio State looked like crap in their loss at Purdue. In 2 losses in last 3 games the Buckeyes have failed to slow down the hot hand. Wisconsin’s Jordan Taylor and Purdue’s E’Twaun Moore combined to shoot 21-31fg(68%) for 65 points.  Where are the in game adjustments Thad Matta?  Where’s the defense all of a sudden?

Other numbers that stand out in their 2 losses: the opponents shot 51% from the field, and made 19 of 44 from 3-point country, while the Buckeyes only connected on 7 of 24 from beyond the arc.

David Lighty has struggled in the losses, scoring only 18 points on 4 of 13 shooting from the field and 9 of 16 from the free throw line.

The Buckeyes are now just 1 game ahead of the Boilermakers in the Big Ten with 4 games to play.  If they want a number #1 seed in the tournament, they’re going to have to win the Big Ten regular season outright.

Final 4 games for Ohio State are at home against Illinois, home versus Indiana, away at Penn State and the final game of the regular season is a home game with Wisconsin.

  1. I agree Roda. Matta is making the same mistake that he made when OSU last went to the Final Four: Not using bench more; not making adjustments; and, sticking with small lineup too long. In both losses, Matta has had Lighty defending guys alot taller than he and using other people on the hot shooting Taylor and Moore. It is obvious that good coaches are playing big lineups and forcing unfavorable lineups on Matta and he has no response. If Matta does not remedy this problem there will be no Final Four.
