The Madness Has Truly Begun

If day one of March Madness taught us anything, it’s that you should expect the unexpected. Louisville going down in the 1st round to Morehead St. and Richmond knocks off Vanderbilt (if you listened to Afternoon R n R, I had that one for you). So a 12 seed is playing a 13 seed in the 2nd round, WOW!

However I don’t think Buckeye fans have to worry about Ohio St. falling to Texas San Antonio. A 16 seed has never defeated a 1 seed and it ain’t happening in Cleveland, Ohio. After talking with Thad Matta, David Lighty, Jarred Sullinger, Aaron Craft and John Three-Bler on Thursday, I came away feeling more confident about this team than before I filled out my bracket, where I have Ohio St. winning it all. They are focused, taking it one day at a time, one game at a time. In fact they are taking it 4 minutes at a time. That’s their battle cry, “4 minute wars”. After every 4 minutes or so in a game, a TV timeout will stop the action. So the Buckeyes play as hard as they can for 4 minutes, knowing they’ll get a breather at the TV timeout. So that means there are (10) 4 minute wars a game, and they want to win each and every one. I love the approach, and we’ll get to see it in person on Friday afternoon at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. So while there will be more of the unexpected happening in this march to the title, and you should expect it, just don’t expect it to happen to the Buckeyes while they’re in Cleveland.

  1. Madness indeed. Vandy totally laid an egg. I guess now they’ll just have to take solace in their mascot:

Makes me laugh every time I watch it.
