Final Preseason Thoughts

By Kenny Roda

A lot of rookie and second-year players are going to be called upon to produce on all three units. That’s asking a lot of the young and inexperienced players.

Depth is a MAJOR concern with this team… there really is none! At many positions this is a HUGE issue, most specifically RB,OL,LB.

Colt McCoy looks like he feels comfortable with Pat Shurmur’s style of the West Coast offense.

Peyton Hillis is your starter at running back, but after that, everybody else at the running back position is a major question mark and that includes the full backs. Maybe after seeing him first hand, the Browns will go after Chester Taylor .

I still don’t see anything at this point that makes me believe the wide receivers are going to be as good as Mike Holmgren, Tom Heckert and Pat Shurmur think they are. Greg Little passes the eye test, but now it counts for real. Are you confident in him to be the so-called #1?

I loved the free agent signing of free safety Usama Young, but he didn’t play a single down in the pre-season. That’s a concern to me, but hopefully he’s healed and is a fast learner.

Players I feel best about going into the regular season: Joe Thomas, T.J. Ward, Alex Mack, Peyton Hillis, Ryan Pontbriand, Joe Haden and Phil Dawson.

Players I feel O.K. about going into the regular season: Evan Moore, Ben Watson, D’Qwell Jackson, Scott Fujita and Josh Cribbs(KR).

Players that have potential, but have a lot to prove: Phil Taylor, Jabaal Sheard, Greg Little, Jason Pinkston and Monterio Hardesty.

I thought Pat Shurmur looked comfortable and not overwhelmed handling the offensive coordinator job as well as his head coaching duties. We’ll see now if that carries over to the regular season.
