Browns/Dolphins Key Match Ups

By Kenny Roda

Haden vs Marshall

Joe Haden has been very good through the first two games, albeit against poor quarterbacking play, but still he has made plays.  This week he’ll get a little bit of a stiffer test. While Chad Henne isn’t considered an elite QB, he’s better than Andy Dalton and Kerry Collins, plus Henne is throwing to a top 10 wide receiver in Brandon Marshall. So it will be fun to watch, and also impact full for both teams, as Haden and Marshall do battle all over the field on Sunday.

Taylor vs Pouncey

Most games are won in the trenches and this week there will be a battle there between two first round draft picks that could impact the game in a BIG way. Dolphins first round pick, center, Mike Pouncey going up against Browns first rounder, nose tackle, Phil Taylor. Pouncey has been above average in his first two games, while Taylor has been good to very good in his first 2 contests.  So keep an eye on the two big uglies in the center of the line on Sunday when the Dolphins have the ball. One thing that may give Taylor an advantage is that at times, Pouncey will also have to deal with Ahtyba Rubin on the inside.

Thomas vs Wake

In the Dolphins 3-4 defense, the guy who’s job it is to go get the quarterback is right outside linebacker Cameron Wake. In the Browns offense, the guy who’s job it is to protect the quarterback is Joe Thomas.  Those two will meet head on a number of times on Sunday. Thomas did a nice job last week against Dwight Freeney, giving up only one sack.  He’ll need to have as good a game this week, if not better, to keep Colt McCoy upright and give the Browns passing attack a chance to score some points that could lead to Cleveland’s 2nd victory on the year.

  1. Kenny, Good points on the matchups but I think that one of the things I am looking for in this game is to see the Browns Wide Receivers to break some tackles. From what I have watched of Miami’s defense this year they are out of positon and miss tackles, like a 99 yard reception to Wes Welker. This will be a good indication of how far our passing offense has developed or not. Go Browns! I love the show guys! Thanks
